A Midsummer Night’s Dream & Carnival of Animals
Article by Kristen Schweizer
On March 20 & 21, San Diego Ballet performed two pieces: A Midsummer Night’s Dream and an original piece entitled Carnival of Animals in tandem as a two act show. Bravo to the company for giving both a classical tale we know, and an entirely inventive new work to San Diego audiences. The second half of the show was the colorful journey through the animal kingdom, which featured modern/ballet fused with hip-hop dance performed by the first and most reputable of San Diego hip hop crews, Culture Shock San Diego. This resourceful partnership was meant specifically for young children, a valuable choice! Introducing children to the magnificent art organizations in our city is a crucial priority to ensure future generations appreciation of the art form. The bright and engaging programming, the originality and accessible prices keep San Diego Ballet a remarkable and important dance institution our city can be proud of!
