An all female cast headline this charming play by Lauren Gunderson. As this was my first time attending a show at Moxie Theatre, I must touch on the location – a hidden gem of a theater in San Diego. Unassuming yet filled with wonder, the venue is located in the College East area; boasting shopping center parking for its inconspicuous visitors. The stage is a small and intimate one where one has the sense that many a great moment has been absorbed and sought again.

The play highlights four of history’s most important and lesser known female figures who lived during one of France’s most pivotal eras, the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution. A time when revolt was frantic yet inevitable, fraught with an ever-evolving hypocrisy that threatened the very ideals to which they championed. Elevating some of the lesser known heroes of the time, the actors brilliantly convey the intense energy of their causes with humor and gusto. Moments of great influence are cleverly wrapped up into a beautifully costumed quartet of stunningly talented actresses.
