Your Song, Your Story

Your Song Your Story

Your Song Your Story is a two-year initiative that departs from the San Diego Symphony’s traditional approach to community engagement by inviting residents of historically underserved neighborhoods to participate in the creation and performance of art. The project is based on community video submissions, culminating in a powerful performance that highlights the incredible diversity and vibrancy of the San Diego community. This July, Your Song Your Story will be hosting 4 incredible shows across San Diego.

Bill Conti who wrote music for James Bond and Rocky has composed a musical experience inspired by the music from 2 years worth of video submissions from San Diego musicians. The performances will include 18 local performers as well as the San Diego Symphony. All shows are accompanied by either a Block Party or Opening Reception, which will include free food, live music and dance, and local artists and performers. Your Song Your Story concerts are wonderful events for the whole family and they are completely free!

For their commitment to engaging historically underserved communities in the creation of high quality performances and creating mutually beneficial, multi-faceted conversations with the San Diego community we are proud to have Your Song Your Story as our Cause of the Quarter.

  1. This was thoroughly fantastic! What a gift to Our Community! Thanks sooooo much to the James Irvine Foundation and the many wonderful partners (http://yoursongyourstory.org/our-story/ ) that helped make it happen! Simply a glorious mulit-talented, multi-media melange of heart, soul and creative energies, woven together with a stunning original score composed by Bill Conti. Led by the always delightful Matthew Garbutt, our fabulous San Diego Symphony gave us a first-rate, and totally unique evening to remember. Thanqu! Thanqu!
