Xquisite Corpse is an exhibition with roots in the Surrealist movement. It is based on a technique invented by surrealists in the 1920’s in which a sequence of images was blindly assembled by the participants giving rise to whimsical, impossible and unexpected results. It stems from an old parlor game called Consequences in which players write on a sheet of paper, fold it to conceal the previous writing, and then pass it to the next writer to continue based only on the last sentence or words. This exhibition will combine both. Selected artists, writers and poets from the region were invited to participate. Two writers and two poets started the game with a short selection from their published work. These words were given to four artists to interpret into a narrative 2D piece of art within a month. The artwork was in turn given to four more word smiths to interpret and so on for four turns. The magic of translating words to pictures and vice versa will be revealed for the first time to all the participants opening night.
