Celebrate the artwork of more than 100 active duty military members at this special ArtOASIS Showcase and exhibition unveiling. Listen in as participants share stories about how the ArtOASIS program has impacted their lives. Past participants and members of the School Of Music For Recovery at Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD) will perform live music during the event, and ArtOASIS graduate Keith Sherman will give opening remarks. Sherman is the founder of Gold Star Dirt, a company dedicated to sharing stories of fallen service members through the voices of their Gold Star families. The ArtOASIS program promotes healing by helping individuals find value and meaning through creativity. Military members are invited to take part in a series of art classes held at the Naval Base in Point Loma and at MCASD, where they produce original works of art as a means of coping with the effects of combat-related stress. This year the program expanded to serve residents at VVSD. Veterans enrolled in the residential treatment program there participated in bimonthly guided tours and art-making workshops at the Museum.Their original works are included in this Showcase.
