Each workshop in this 3-part “Arts Law” series, organized with California Lawyers for the Arts, will be comprised of a 35 min presentation followed by 20 min of Q&A with attorneys in a wide range of topics including Branding and Trademarks/ Copyright and Intellectual Property / How to set up your organization as a nonprofit, LLC, etc., and changes in tax laws that affect creative industries.

February 25, 2019: The Art of Deduction with T. Jesus Oba, EA, CPA

Major tax reforms went into effect in 2018, affecting individuals as well as their businesses. California Lawyers for the Arts and Vanguard Culture invite Artists and Creative Freelancers of all disciplines to join for a workshop on the essentials of income tax for individual artists. Topics will include record keeping, IRS form 1040, Schedule C, and self-employment schedules, itemized deductions, hobby losses, and home offices.

Speaker: T. JESÚS OBA, EA, CPA is an enrolled agent and CPA whom has his practice in downtown San Diego. He is president of the San Diego Chapter of CalCPA and focuses his practice on clients with international tax matters. When not in his office, he can be found taste testing Tijuana’s delicacies
