The 2016 Mainly Mozart Festival celebrates 28 years showcasing a wide array of music by Mozart with performances with the theme of  “Prodigy”. This year’s theme features some of the most unique talent in the world including upcoming performances by Sylvia Milo in The Other Mozart, an award-winning Off-Broadway one-woman play about Mozart’s brilliant sister, a concert by  young musical genius 14-year-old pianist/vocalist/songwriter Ethan Bortnick and many more.

On Wednesday June 8th at the Balboa Theatre, the Mainly Mozart Festival presented Minor Storms, played by the Mainly Mozart Orchestra and was lead by violinist, William Preucil and pianist, Anne-Marie McDermott. They played Mendelssohn Concerto for Violin and Piano in D Minor, Haydn Symphony No. 39 in G minor, Hob .1:39 and Mozart Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K. 183/173dB. Preucil and McDermott played beautifully and expressed passion and emotion that made for a phenomenal performance.

The Mainly Mozart Festival’s purpose is “to enrich the lives of today’s and tomorrow’s passionate music lovers by connecting them to the genius and innovation of Mozart and the Masters, to world-class musicians and music-making, and to each other.” The festival runs through June 18th 2016
and will present several concerts throughout San Diego including, five concerts by the Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra, Three Chamber Players concerts; Bastien und Bastienne, a comic opera composed by the 12-year-old Mozart; Mozart & the Mind, featuring internationally recognized figures in the sciences, medicine, and the arts exploring the impact of music on our brains, health, and lives.

The second annual San Diego Makes Music, is a free open-air concert at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, with the opportunity for audience members to play along with the Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra.
