SAT. 1/19: Behind the Movement: The Future Starts Here. $20-$25. Dance icon John Malashock will create new choreography to live music written and performed by San Diego Symphony ‘Hearing the Future Festival” Director Matthew Aucoin.Guests will have an opportunity to see the creative process live while sipping on craft cocktails and delicious wines from the Valle de Guadalupe. The event includes a pre-show pop-up art exhibition themed around “sound” and “the future” by the local artist collective Space 4 Art.
SAT. 3/23 – The Art of Dance: CHAGALL. $50-$150. An unforgettable dance, art, and fashion event inspired by the whimsical works of Marc Chagall. Proceeds benefit Malshock’s Education and Outreach Programs. Featuring performances by Malashock Dance Company, live art creation, a Chagall-inspired fashion show, live auction, and delicious bites and craft cocktails by Vanguard Culture.
SAT. 5/11 -THE EDGE: A new series presented by Gilbert Castellanos in partnership with Vanguard Culture. Join us for a night of musical artistry between San Diego Music Award-winning jazz and non-jazz musicians. Local jazz icon Gilbert Castellanos has invited Americana musicians “The Midnight Pine” to step out of their comfort zone and onto the edge of something new. Find out what happens when two of Southern California’s hottest bands from opposite musical genres musically merge. 7:00p.m. – 10:00 p.m. $25-$40 Tickets Include Delicious Bites + 1 Craft Cocktail.
SAT. 10/12 – SLOW. CHOP. IGNITE. This choreographer / chef competition tasks competitors with using the same 5 culinary terms as prompt ingredients for their dance or appetizer. The event will include a pop-up art show by bi-national photographer Josue Castro of The Kitchen Project TJ, featuring compelling portraits of chefs and dancers. Chefs win cash prizes as well as industry related opportunities including a paid choreographic commission by the PGK Dance Project. $25-$40. Tickets include access to 6 chef stations, 1 craft cocktail, & pre-show industry mixer with music by DJ Masha.

BREAKTHROUGH – This quarterly Spoken Word Series will be themed around catalytic moments in the history of art, fashion,music, pop culture and more. Each event includes delicious food, live music, spoken word, dance, and visual arts – all themed around a specific historical era. Co-produced in partnership with CA Poet Laureate Nominee Gill Sotu, guests are encouraged to dress in costume of each era.

SAT. 11/2: The Future. $40-$80 This culminating event of the series will present a hopeful visioning of catalytic moments in the future of art, fashion, music, pop culture that would change the world for the better. Major tax reforms went into effect in 2018, affecting individuals as well as their businesses. California Lawyers for the Arts and Vanguard Culture invite Artists and Creative Freelancers of all disciplines to join for a workshop on the essentials of income tax for individual artists. Topics will include record keeping, IRS form 1040, Schedule C, and self-employment schedules, itemized deductions, hobby losses, and home offices.

Collateral Collective, a new online platform designed to introduce artists and patrons to one another for creative and transactional connections, will present two pop-up art shows featuring dozens of local artists involved in the collective. The Not-So-Silent Short Film Fest: – Join fellow cinephiles for three interactive evenings of silent short films curated by award-winning multi-media curator and soundscape artist Scott Paulson. Paulson will present lively screenings of silent classics with his band, the Teeny-Tiny Pit Orchestra. Audiences are encouraged to grab sound makers ranging from exotic wooden bird calls, to giant thunder-sheets, to old-school car horns to help underscore the films. Featuring craft cocktails and delicious gourmet popcorn varieties by our Culinary Director Chef Daniella de la Puente. $15.00 includes 1 bag of popcorn + 1 drink.
