Now – 9/12: Athenaeum’s 29th Annual Juried Exhibition

Open to artists who live, work, or have exhibited in San Diego, the Athenaeum’s Annual Juried Exhibition provides a platform for local artists to receive excellent exposure and to draw inspiration from talented peers. Acceptable submissions this year included 2-D and 3-D media, with the exception of functional or craft art, that have been completed within the past five years. Joe Yorty, Creative Director of Best Practice, and Elizabeth Rooklidge, Independent Curator and Editor of HereIn, selected 92 works by 46 artists. A record 269 artists submitted 735 works for consideration. Due to current health guidelines, the entry process, jurying, and exhibition were organized fully online, which allowed for 2D/3D entries as well as time-based works. First, second, and third-place awards, Leslie Von Kolb Memorial Award, and honorable mentions were awarded by the jurors before the opening of the exhibition. “In addition, the online platform has allowed for the inclusion in the exhibition a wider range of disciplines and media that in previous years have been difficult to accommodate including large sculpture, installation, video, and performance.
