Details

Date:
November 20, 2020
Time:
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

On November 20th, 45 San Diego Symphony musicians return to Copley Symphony Hall at Jacobs Music Center for the first time since March! Even though we can’t all be together in concert, we hope you’ll tune in for a live-streamed performance of diverse classical works featuring our strings, winds, and brass, with works spanning from the 16th to 20th centuries.Led by Music Director Rafael Payare, the program begins with the spotlight on brass in Gabrieli and Buonamente’s music from Baroque Venice. Music by Payare’s fellow countryman Romero features tight fugues and Venezuelan waltzes in Fuga con pajarillo from Suite for Strings No. 1, showcasing the orchestra’s ability to dance between the two musical forms under Payare’s lead. The Symphony’s incredible wind section comes to life through the sounds of Dvořák’s lyrical Serenade, and the orchestra’s forces combine for the elegant Symphony No. 1 written by Chevalier de Saint-Georges.
