SUMMARY:A Body of Work
DESCRIPTION:A Body of Work explores the dancer’s body as both the instrument and the archive of their art. Through movement\, the body creates the dance—and through muscle memory\, it stores it. The body becomes both the medium and the message. \nThis photographic project is the result of three years of dedicated work with over 20 dancers from across San Diego County. These artists represent a rich diversity of ages\, ethnicities\, body types\, genders\, and dance styles—including Hip Hop\, Ballet\, Modern Dance\, and Flamenco. \nPhotographed at close range and under controlled lighting\, the images present the body in ways that are at once intimately familiar and curiously abstract. The goal is to invite viewers to see the human form anew—stripped of cultural assumptions and commercial distortions. A Body of Work seeks to restore a sense of wonder and innocence to the most familiar of all objects: our own bodies. \nJuly 31 to September 6\, 2025\nReception: Saturday\, August 9th 4-6pm\n\n
