2026 Carnaval of New Latinx Musicals

August 28 August 30

Celebrate the future of Latiné musical theatre at the 2026 Carnaval of New Latinx Musicals, taking place August 28–30, 2026 at UC San Diego’s Epstein Family Amphitheater. Produced by the Latinx Theatre Commons in partnership with the UC San Diego Department of Theatre & Dance, La Jolla Playhouse, and TuYo Theatre, this free three-day festival brings together artists, audiences, and theatre leaders from across the country for concert readings of four new musicals, late-night performances, conversations, and community celebrations. Designed to amplify emerging voices and advance new work toward future stages, Carnaval is a joyful celebration of Latiné music, storytelling, and theatrical innovation.

Building on San Diego’s growing reputation as a national hub for new play development, the festival creates meaningful opportunities for writers, composers, lyricists, and producers to connect while giving audiences an early look at the next generation of groundbreaking musicals. Whether you’re a devoted musical theatre fan or simply curious about discovering new voices, Carnaval offers an inspiring weekend where creativity, culture, and community take center stage.
