It’s a Good Day for Great Art
Article by Kristen Schweizer
If the fear of rain kept you indoors today, you have one more chance! The clouds cleared in time for a beautiful, 32nd Annual Mission Federal ArtWalk. And you’re in luck, you can still make it to day number two as the festival continues tomorrow!
The popular art festival is at home within the photogenic Little Italy as over 350 artists showcase anything and everything you could define as art. Dance troupes perform, live painting showcases, costume and fine jewelry, sculpture, glasswork, photography, (not to mention San Diego’s hottest #selfie backdrops), live music, and a few unsanctioned street performers have a juxtaposition and celebration that transforms Little Italy into a true piazza.
Regardless of your taste or budget, the event has pieces to add to your collection. (If you don’t like art, the bites in Little Italy and street food are a standalone reason to check it out!) The free, family-friendly event also features interactive art activities and KidsWalk—offering a wide range of creative projects. Not to play favorites, but I ended up with this beauty from artist Richard Curtner (www.curtnerart.com):
Mission Federal ArtWalk will be located in between Ash and Grape Street in San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood. The event will run through Sunday, May 1. Attendance is free. For additional details on San Diego’s ArtWalk and its programs, please visit www.artwalksandiego.org.
