A 90-foot runway had attendees mesmerized as model after model clothed in richly hued, multicolored fabrics of all types and textures in outfits for casual as well as elegant evening wear strutted down the walkway. On August 30th hundreds of mostly female attendees poured into the Costa Del Mar Ballroom at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa for The Old Globe’s 2017 major fundraising event. Presented by Neiman Marcus, this exclusively curated show featuring the fall collections, including couture and pret-a-porter by a special group of designers. This one-day event included a champagne reception, silent and live auctions and luncheon. After the fashion show, Neiman Marcus hosted a one-of-a-kind boutique for browsing and shopping.
Organized annually by the Globe Guilders, an all-volunteer auxiliary group, this fashion show has been a much-anticipated event for the past 27 years. This ongoing dedicated group of women and men have been supporting The Old Globe Theater for 62 years. Their work is as diverse as hosting meet-and-greets for the cast and crew of each play, to shuttling actors back and forth from the airport to organizing the annual fundraising fashion show and supporting community educational outreach. Kim Neapole, one of the Co-Chairs of the fashion event commented that this event was expected to raise $100,000, and is mainly used for the “Reflecting Shakespeare” program which reaches out to community programs involving senior centers, penitentiaries, and others who have had little if any experience with Shakespeare plays. Other supported programs include: Globe for All, AXIS, coLAB, Behind the Curtain, Bard Basics, Community Voices, Breaking Bread, Pam Farr Summer Shakespeare Studio, Behind The Scenes and the Bard Experience Tours, Free Student Matinees, Grinch Children’s Initiatives, Grinch sensory-friendly performances, School in the Park, Hoover High School Residency, seminars and forums, program translations, professional development for teachers, Globe Learning-Opportunities for Impact(including technical center and internships, and the Old Globe University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theater Program.
The Old Globe Theater has won several Tony Awards, is one of the country’s leading professional theaters and remains one of San Diego’s flagship arts institutions. For more information visit https://www.theoldglobe.org/
Their “Celebrating Couture 2017” was a memorable fundraising event for all attendees and a great way to support the theater’s arts engagement programs.
