The SCFTA new season is here!

Last week Segerstrom Center for the Arts presented a special preview of its exciting 2014 – 2015 Season with performances and guest artists at the gorgeous Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. The evening included songs and highlights performed by the casts from shows in the 2014 – 2015 Broadway Series, as well as Pippin, Motown the Musical and The Phantom of the Opera and ONCE! The San Diego engagement opened August 12th and closed on the 17th. It opened in Costa Mesa on August 19th and will run until Sunday August 31st

– The final production in the 2013 – 2014 Broadway Series.

In addition to performing numbers from the shows, the artists talked about the productions, their performances and entertaining behind-the-scenes stories. Great opportunity to see the different aspects that involve a touring Broadway show as well as the ups and downs, audition and montage wise in the great white New York way.

What is coming you say?

There are a bunch of programs this wonderful center has that include something for everybody. Here is the complete scoop! Do not say you have not been warned! Save this in your browser because it is packed with fun, musical artistic joy!!!!

The 2014 – 2015 Broadway and Curtain Call Series will include: Pippin (November 11 – 23, 2014), Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical (December 10 – 14, 2014), Kinky Boots (December 30, 2014 – January 11, 2015) and for next year: Dirty Dancing (February 3 – 15, 2015), Nice Work If You Can Get It (March 17 – 22, 2015), Guys and Dolls (April 14 – 19, 2015), Annie the Musical (May 13 – 24, 2015), Motown the Musical (June 16 –28, 2015) and The Phantom of the Opera (August 5 – 16, 2015).

Tony Bennett and a very special guest, Antonia Bennett will do a performance on Sunday, October 5th. The Jazz Series with a stellar list of jazz masters will include Billy Childs: Map to Treasure-reimagining Laura Nyro on Wednesday October 17th.

It will be a music “set” that jazz fans will not want to miss. Going strong until February 28th, 2015 with the closing engagement of Elling Swings Sinatra. A cabaret series starting October 10th. Bringing the greats, the legends and the brightest new stars from the concert and cabaret world to its audiences. Each artist brings an individual style and personal charisma to their music. It’s very personal communication from artist to audience that makes for memory making evenings.

A chamber music series also starting October 10th, one of the West Coast’s most esteemed opportunities to hear some of the world’s most sublime music performed by the world’s greatest musical talents in the unique intimacy and acoustically superb Samueli Theater. During the series performers are heard and seen giving life to the composer’s inspiration and spirit. Once again, the Chamber Music Series artists will take us on an expansive journey, covering more than five centuries of sublime music.

Composer and live performer Yanni, Sunday September 21st.

Mexico! Represent! Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán debuting at the center Saturday November 29th. And keeping on with the representing, Fiesta Navidad Tuesday December 23rd with the ‘Los Camperos’ de Nati Cano Mariachi.

Truly there is something for everybody! And not so far away. It can be a nice weekend or trip with the fam and friends.
