ABOUT: An Artist @ the Table

Since its inception, An Artist @ The Table has become one of Vanguard Culture’s most beloved and distinctive programs. Created to bring audiences closer to the creative process, the series invites guests to share a table with visionary artists, cultural leaders, and innovators whose work is shaping the cultural landscape of San Diego and beyond, featuring wine pairings from the Valle de Guadalupe by Baja Wine + Food.

Each edition of An Artist @ The Table is thoughtfully designed as a multi-sensory experience, pairing leaders in contemporary art, music, theatre, fashion, dance and more with some of the most exciting culinary masters in the region. Acclaimed chefs collaborate with featured artists to craft menus inspired by the themes, ideas, and visual language of the artist’s work, transforming each course into an extension of the creative narrative. What begins as an evening among strangers quickly evolves into a shared journey of dialogue, creative discovery, and artistic surprise. Featured culinary artists have included superstars like Chef Roberto Alcocer, the visionary behind Valle, the only Michelin-starred Mexican restaurant in San Diego County and Chef Claudia Sandoval, winner of MasterChef Season 6 among many other notable chefs and winemakers.

Over the years, the series has welcomed an extraordinary range of artists and cultural icons. —from internationally celebrated designers and architects like Jennifer Luce of Luce et Studio Architects to museum directors like Roxana Velasquez, the Maruja Baldwin Executive Director and CEO at The San Diego Museum of Art; and many other groundbreaking contemporary artists and creative leaders. Hosted in unique and intimate spaces across San Diego, each gathering offers guests rare, behind-the-scenes insight into the artistic process while fostering meaningful connections between the region’s creative community and the audiences who support it.

More than a dinner, An Artist @ The Table is an invitation to experience art in a deeply personal way, through the shared ritual of breaking bread. As the series continues to evolve, it remains a cornerstone of Vanguard Culture’s mission to celebrate creativity by building bridges between artists and the community they inspire, in unique and unforgettable ways. We recognize how powerful the simple act of dining together can be, to accomplish this goal. Past A@T featured artists include David Bennett, Managing Director of the San Diego Opera; Dame Zandra Rhodes, founder of the Fashion and Textile Museum in London who has designed for Diana, Princess of Wales; the world-renownedDe la Torre Brothers’ whose work has been exhibited in some of the world’s most notable museums and galleries including The Chrystler Museum of Art; Carnegie Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego and more;  and recently, Lisane Basquiat & Jeanine Heriveaux, sisters and co-administrators of the Estate of their late brother, legendary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. The next Artist @ the Table features a contemporary sound and light installation inspired by the four elements: Earth, Fire, Water, and Air by artist Ben Guerrette and renowned Chef Flor Franco, the first female inductee to Disciples of Ecoffier.

This popular creative dinner series not only introduces the general public to San Diego’s Arts Leaders, it also supports San Diego’s Creative Industries. Ticket sales from these dinners help fund Vanguard Culture‘s Professional Development Programs for Creatives.
