Job Summary
The ENVZN Urban Art Takeover curatorial committee is seeking guest curators to bring their expertise and innovation to this year’s festival on Sat. Sept. 14th from 2pm-10pm and to help lead the logistics for a select group of ENVZN featured visual and performing artists.
This Contractor is responsible for working with Vanguard Culture staff, interns, volunteers, and the ENVZN curatorial committee to ensure that ENVZN featured artists’ logistical needs are met leading up to the day of the event. The role of Guest Curator requires conceptual vision as well as project management skills to implement and lead the vision to fruition.

About ENVZN
ENVZN24 Urban Art Takeover is a one-of-a-kind visual and performing arts festival produced by Vanguard Culture that will transform urban areas of the Commercial Street corridor in Logan Heights with multi-sensory art interventions by creatives from both sides of the U.S./Mexico border. This festival will take place on Sat. Sept. 14th from 2pm-10pm and is an official part of World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024 celebrations.
About Vanguard Culture
Vanguard Culture is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to advancing San Diego’s Creative Industry workforce. Proceeds from this event will support quality arts journalism, professional development, and cultural events that work to create arts jobs, bring diverse communities together, and inspire collaboration among industry professionals from the visual, performing, and culinary arts.
Guest Curator’s Duties and Responsibilities
- Meets with select ENVZN featured artists and conduct studio visits as needed to ensure that the final result is engaging and unexpected, while expanding cultural perspective and understanding;
- Works with artists to bring to fruition a compelling exhibition or performance that is conceptually strong, technically feasible, and within budget;
- Coordinates with artists, volunteers, staff, consultants, vendors, and interns to assist featured artists with installation/deinstallation; set-up/ breakdown of their exhibition or performance space.
Candidate’s ideal qualities or experience:
- Passion, drive, commitment to excellence and integrity.
- A collaborative and innovative approach.
- Demonstrates comparable experience in the planning, design, and implementation of innovative contemporary arts exhibitions and/or performing arts programs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively in written and verbal format, and to build and maintain relationships.
- Excellent project management skills, including meticulous attention to detail and ability to keep to deadlines while covering a wide-range of activities in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation
Contractor will receive compensation of $750.00, to be paid in two installments. This job description is intended as a guide to the general job responsibilities and is not inclusive of every duty the contractor is expected to perform.
