A Conversation with San Diego Poet Laureate Jason Magabo Perez

Join us for the San Diego Library’s next Signature Event Series featuring San Diego Poet Laureate Jason Magabo Perez ’03, MA ’13, PhD ’16. In addition to a moderated conversation with Audrey Geisel University Librarian Erik Mitchell, Perez will read from some of his published works of poetry. A reception will follow the discussion.  The event will highlight Perez’s newest work “I ask about what falls away” to be released in 2024, as well as his time as San Diego’s Poet Laureate and previous works. Jason Magabo Perez is a Filipino American poet, performer, essayist, researcher and educator. Perez is the author of “Phenomenology of Superhero” (Red Bird Chapbooks, 2016), “This is for the mostless” (WordTech Editions, 2017), and “I ask about what falls away” (Kaya Press, forthcoming 2024). Blending poetry, prose, performance, film/video, and oral history, Perez’s work explores Filipino American histories, colonialism, state violence, solidarity, migration, memory and intimacy.
