While most students are away, now is the perfect time to discover one of San Diego’s best performance venues: the outdoor Epstein Family Amphitheatre.
Cool evening breezes, relaxed outdoor seating and a fantastic sound system create an unbeatable environment for both performers and audiences.
“The Epstein Family Amphitheater is one of San Diego’s great outdoor stages, and summer is when it really comes into its own,” said Liz Bradshaw, director of artistic programs. “This season’s lineup reflects the global breadth of the artists we champion — from Spanish flamenco-pop to Grammy-winning poetry — and we’re proud to bring world-class performances to San Diegans and visitors alike.”
The hot summer vibe kicks off July 10 with Maruja Limon, a Barcelona-based sextet making their California debut. Their performance blends flamenco, pop, and Latin rhythms.
On July 21 & 22, Oscar-winning music composer Michael Giacchino returns to UCSD for two remarkable nights of music and conversation. He’ll be partnering with fellow award-winning composers and sharing movie-making stories and live performances.

It wouldn’t be summer without some summertime blues. Blues Poet Aja Monet brings her poetry to life with surreal and genre-blending music on July 30.
Want some Cream with your iced coffee? How about local band Cream of Clapton, the only cover band to win Eric Clapton’s endorsement. Come August 1 and enjoy a night of Clapton’s greatest hits.
Then let’s get tropical with co-headliners Helado Negro and Reyna Tropical on August 12. Known for their experimental blends of pop and tropical rhythms, their Latin-infused music is equally atmospheric, intimate, and socially conscious.
End your summer vacay in the city with the top Flamenco dance company in the United States, Siudy Garrido Flamenco, on Thursday, Aug. 13. Discover the depth and emotional power of this historic yet contemporary Spanish dance form.

ArtPower closes the season on Sept. 19 with a special performance from Swedish folk singer José González. His latest studio album, “Against the Dying of the Light,” aims to provide hope, comfort, and courage..
“Summer in San Diego is made for nights outdoors, and a great evening only gets better with live music and memorable conversations under the stars,” said Colleen Kollar Smith, executive director of the Campus Performances and Events Office at UC San Diego.
Two last cool idea for these hot summer nights:
-Bring a sweater or cozy cover up… you’d be surprised how cool it can get at night.
-Take the blue line Trolley to UCSD and skip the traffic and parking hassles. Just step off the tram and get ready to party.
