The Passion of Joan of Arc

SILENT FILM | LIVE ORCHESTRA | STRINGS | CHOIR | ELECTRONIC

The Passion of Joan of Arc is a live score by Korean/American composer George Sarah, performed with a 9-piece local ensemble from both sides of the border. This critically acclaimed 1928 silent film by Carl Dreyer with a new 2018 restoration is brought to life with a haunting new score, which re-imagines this classic with a modern urgency. Combining electronic rhythms/keyboards with local string quartet, and local early music four voice choir, composer George Sarah has crafted an unforgettable visual and auditory experience suitable for all ages.

About the Film: One of the best films ever made by over 100 critics. 98% Rotten Tomatoes “You cannot know the history of silent film unless you know the face of Renée Jeanne Falconetti. In a medium without words, where the filmmakers believed that the camera captured the essence of characters through their faces, to see Falconetti in Dreyer’s “The Passion of Joan of Arc” (1928) is to look into eyes that will never leave you.”
