Parking Sin Estrellas

BOLD | RAW | PUPPETRY | BINATIONAL | EMOTIONAL

“Parking without Stars” (**Performed in Spanish) is a puppetry show that portrays the troubled Zona Norte of Tijuana (zone of tolerance) where the children can be seen alone at all hours of the day, walking among prostitutes, tourists, “sobre ruedas” (street markets), drunkards, taco stands, drug trade points, casinos, Mexican curious, and mariachis. The chaotic, traditional, and dangerous confluence makes us think of the Zona Norte as an analogy for the jungle where the distinct environments, animals, dangers, prey, and a particular aesthetic of the grotesque, coexist. The girls and boys in this area have learned survival strategies to move through the streets. Still, they continue to be little dreamers that we’ve thrown into that jungle and who do not stop imagining fantastic possibilities. Accompany the young protagonist on his excursion through the chaotic and dangerous “city jungle” of the Zona Norte and travel into outer space as a metaphor for his dreams – an escape from this wild world through the beautiful imagination of childhood.
